Are You Ready For Some Football {Food}

Standard

football-emnNWH-food

Football season is back which means at my house, my reality shows have been taken over by ESPN. Although I once used to consider myself a football fan, the truth has surfaced and I have learned–I am a poser.  Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy watching my Carolina Panthers play, but I can do without the sport everyday. In reality, I only enjoy football parties because of the food and half-time (so I can socialize). Today I thought I would share some simply delicious ideas to make football a little more enjoyable.

Get in my belly:

1. Pizza. Who doesn’t love pizza?! Many pizza places have specials this time of year which make for a super simple clean up!

2. Sandwiches. Go to the grocery store and stock up on some of your favorite lunch meats, cheeses, and bread.  Make  variation of mini sandwiches, throw them on a cute platter, and boom  your done. If you are feeling a little more creative, shape them into small footballs.

3. Last but not least  is my personal favorite– WINGS!!!! I love chicken wings because there are SO many ways to make them–fried, grilled, baked. Below is a recipe I found on foodess.com  that I hope to try this year.

Baked Buffalo Wings
Buffalo Wings1 Baked Buffalo Wings
Ingredients
  • 6 lbs chicken wings, tips discarded, separated at joint into 2 pieces
  • salt and pepper
  • 6 tbsp (1/3 cup) butter
  • ½ cup hot sauce, such as Franks RedHot
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spread wings out over two large baking sheets, avoiding overlap (or else the wings will steam, rather than crisp up!). Season well with salt and pepper; bake about 40 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Melt butter over medium heat. Add hot sauce and cayenne, if desired (taste first, then add cayenne to your heat preference).
  3. Transfer wings to a large bowl and toss with sauce. Serve immediately.
Blue Cheese Dressing & Dip
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 125 g/4.5 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp minced green onion (from about 2 thin stalks)
  • ½ tsp salt
Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, beat together all ingredients. Taste, and add more salt if needed.

My family is absolutely amazing!

ImageI have an older brother and two sweet nieces who live in Asheville, NC.  Our younger sister is a student at Rollins College in Florida. We all get closer the older we get. He is the typical big brother–the one who gives you advice and she’s the little sister who you have fun with!

I spend a lot of time with my friends.

I enjoy writing, spending time by the water (pool, beach, lake—it doesn’t matter), and selling Mary Kay!

My Favorite Netflix Picks!

Standard

Along with my addiction to Candy Crush,  I often find myself watching Netflix. Whoever invented it, one word: GENIUS! Paying less than $10 a month to watch unlimited television shows and movies?! Totally worth it. I thought I would share some of my favorite Netflix choices for those who may need some ideas.

I have never been a movie person but I’m slowly learning to enjoy them.  Mostly comedy but I am starting to branch out a bit.

TOP 5 MOVIES

  1. The Sweetest Thing- This is one of my favorite picks for a girls night! It’s fun, it’s edgy, and it’s romantic. Not to mention, Cameron Diaz is one of my favorite  actresses!
  2.  A Little Piece of Heaven- The adorable Kate Hudson plays a terminally ill patient who makes the most of her situation making the most of each day. Have a box of Kleenex ready because this is a tear jerker.
  3. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off- Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck always keep me laughing in this 1980s classic. It is  based on a high schooler  and his best friend skipping school.
  4. Limitless- Bradley Cooper plays a writer who dabbles into a secret drug keeping his life in thrill. I think I’d watch anything once with Bradley Cooper in it–sexy!
  5. What to Expect When Expecting- I think this is an adorable insight of several situations and obstacles people face in the transition of becoming parents. The cast is full of A-listers.

As for TV shows go, I’m not going to lie, I watch some of the most tasteless television–reality TV. I know half of it is totally unrealistic but something about these housewives and teen moms keep me wanting to know more.

TOP 5 TV SHOWS

Weeds-S6-PW

  1. Weeds: This is hands down my favorite television show. It is about a suburban widow finding a not so legal way to raise her boys.
  2. The League: My boyfriend and I started watching this and it is surprisingly good. It is about a group of friends (all with extremely different personalities) who play together in a fantasy football league.
  3. Orange Is the New Black:  I can’t say anything about this except this is a GREAT SHOW! Watch it! I promise you won’t regret it!
  4. The Office: Steve Carrell plays a not so typical  boss in this semi-dry comedy.
  5. Family Guy: I don’t know why I like this show but I do. It’s your typical frat boy, morally questionable, animated comedy.

Lily Pad LaPrad

Standard

Last year one of my dear friends, Lauren, became the first time mother of a beautiful baby girl.

Image

On August 28, 2012, Lauren and her boyfriend, John, welcomed their precious little 6lb., 12oz.  daughter, Lillian Marie.

It seems like just yesterday she was born, when in actuality yesterday we all joined to celebrate her 1st birthday!

Image

Being named, Lillian LaPrad, she inherited the fitting nickname– Lily Pad LaPrad. Her 1st birthday party was themed around lily pads which was perfectly unique. From the food to the decor, the party was perfect!

Image

Image

All dolled up in pig tails and her party dress, Lillian welcomed her guests just like any 1 year old would–crawling, semi-walking and talking, and smiling from ear to ear.

Image

Although some may argue if a 1 year old even understands the concept of their 1st birthday, there is no doubt Lillian knew it was all about her. She crawled from guest to guest, climbing up on their laps for a moment then moving along to the next until it was time for presents and cake. She is such a social butterfly–just like her mom!

Image

She opened her gifts ranging from clothes, to shoes, to toys and touched and looked at each one for a few seconds–as any curious one year old would.

ImageImage

We gathered together at the end, singing to the birthday girl. Of course, being the diva she is, loved the attention.  After her parents helped her blow out her first birthday candle she devoured her yummy cake! What kid doesn’t like sugar, right?!

Image

Yesterday was perfect in every way! I feel honored that I was able to celebrate with so many others as this sweet little girl turned 1. Each time I see her, it seems as if her personality is becoming more of her own. I can not wait to continue to watch her grow and change as the years go by. But before anything I have to get her to say Avyn!

GOD, FAMILY, CAREER

Standard

One of the main reasons I value the Mary Kay company is the principle of its foundation. Mary Kay Ash (the founder of Mary Kay cosmetics) believed the company should be structured with 3 of the most important contributors of life– God first, family second, career third. And I couldn’t agree more!

Without God there is nothing. I truly believe that God is my savior. I have committed myself to The Lord and feel his power within me daily. He is always on time. Sometimes we lose sight of the many blessings he has given us, and one of the blessings for me has been the Mary Kay opportunity.

ImageSecondly is family. I could write an entire book on my family. They are my number one support system as well as some of my very best friends. My family has gone over and beyond to ensure my safety, education, and overall well being is never in jeopardy. I was adopted as a baby by my mother and father who shortly after divorced. Most people would be sad–not me. I now have two sets of amazing parents, two outstanding siblings, a beautiful sister in law, and the cutest nieces in the whole world–literally they are adorable. My mom kinda laughed at the idea of me selling Mary Kay 3 months ago but now that she has seen my success in just a few short months her idea has completely changed. She praises me often for my work ethic and drive to succeed. About a month ago she actually said to me, “Avyn you should really consider cosmetology school. I think you’d do great. You are really well at making people look and feel beautiful.”That was quite the compliment coming from someone recently questioned my decision to work for Mary Kay. My family and I have grown tremendously in the past few years and I count my blessings daily for the love and support of them.

We work we pay bills–repeat…repeat…repeat. That has been my mind set of adulthood since college graduation. Don’t get me wrong I have worked for some great companies and learned from some of the best management teams I’m the Carolinas, but nothing I can whole heartedly say I was 100% passionate about. Well working as a Mary Kay consultant has helped me help others and as I always say no amount of money can compare to that feeling. I love working my own schedule and providing my honest advice and feedback on the products and services I offer. Today, I actually received a phone call that changed my life. Not only am I a Mary Kay independent sales consultant, I have also been hired at a local medical group as the sales and marketing coordinator! I think a mix of my education and my dedication to providing top of the line customer service and social media updates for my Mary Kay business were a leading deciding factor in me working for the practice.

Image

Having said that, I’m not trying to persuade you religiously or career wise, I’m simply saying this structure has been an extremely rewarding concept in me personally. Enjoy your life, love your family, and continuously believe and all things are possible.
